snowburned: ([now i see])
As big as the Wilderness-mall was, not every store was packed with shoppers and mobile mannequins. Kazahana was glad for that as she slipped into the furniture section of a department store. It was quiet here, the bustling sounds muffled by curtains, bedcovers, and other such things. Kazahana sat on the end of one of the display beds and looked down at the crystal in her hand.

It was time. For a while, she'd been afraid to learn more about herself, as much as she wanted to be whole. What if she saw something worse than what the unexpected elevator trip had shown her? But she couldn't stay a coward forever. And if she did see something bad, she'd at least be away from Toushi and her other friends. She could deal with it on her own. Closing her eyes, she touched the crystal.

This is my death )

snowburned: ([no haven for this heart])
Alone in her room, Kazahana sits on her bed with the crystal resting on the pillow, meditating as best she can for a good hour before she picks it up. There's no guarantee that this will work. She's never heard of anyone forcing a specific memory before; it's entirely possible that she'll remember something inconsequential, like going out to eat or taking a bath.

Then again, she's learned something important from every other crystal she's found. And this...this is so important. Is she Hakuteiken's wife, or was it a horrible misunderstanding? What is their connection? Who is she? If she concentrates on this burning desire to remember, to know, then maybe something in Edensphere will remember what it owes her and acquiesce.

Enough dithering. It's time. She touches the crystal with two fingers and immediately the memory washes over her.

It's dark; she can't see, but she can feel a dry breeze ruffle her hair, and she can hear with perfectly clarity.

"R----, is that you?"

"Yes, brother."

These voices she knows; it's Hakuteiken, and herself. She can feel her lips move to form the wards, followed by the touch of their hands as she hesitantly takes his. He sounds tired, almost...defeated. Is he injured?

"I want to tell you something..."

The memory moves on before she can wonder what has happened to him. Hakuteiken has rarely spoken to her with such candor, even now. He speaks of a dead woman, his wife, lost years before. Hisana. It's not her.

Another woman was his wife. That woman is dead. And her? Where did she come from? His voice is quiet but strong as he speaks. "Hisana was your sister."

A sister. She barely registers the next part--Hisana was older, and abandoned her as an infant. Kiba had been right! She had been the baby, and she had been left, and the one who abandoned her had married Hakuteiken, and made him promise to find her. In the memory, Kazahana hears all of this and knows that this is the first time she's ever heard it, from Hakuteiken or otherwise.

"I swore in front of my parents' grave that it would be the last time in breaking the rules, and from that time on, no matter what happens...I would follow and defend the rules to the end."

There's a note of finality in his tone, but also relief, like he's finally let go of a long-carried burden. Right now, she thinks she knows how that feels. As his last words fade in the still, silent air, the memory washes away too, and when she opens her eyes again, she's back home.

And she knows.

snowburned: ([snow in the sunset])
This first thing Kazahana is aware of is that she can't see anything.

The second thing she's aware of is that she can feel the wooden floor between her bare feet.

The third is that she can sense the presence of powerful people—far, far more powerful than she is. She feels like she can barely stand.

Someone takes a breath. "I've come to save you." She knows this voice. Toushi.

But she doesn't want to be saved, because the next thing she does is chide him for being there, and then they start to bicker. It's not all that different from a usual night in the apartment And Toushi just ignores her like he always does, because right now all he's planning to do is—

"—defeat him!"

It's only when she senses Toushi moving away from her that one of the others speaks, and she recognizes the voice. "Why would I need to sneak up on the likes of you? Don't think too highly of yourself, insignificant scum!"

Hakuteiken.

She wants to yell for both of them to stop, but before she can do anything, there's a flare of power so way she's almost swept away in it. All she can do is fall to her knees, and everything goes silent.

[OOC: Kazahana's memory is of the battle that starts here in which she lethally owns an enemy.]
snowburned: ([not looking away])
Our journey to explore the islands was very interesting. I got to meet a number of new faces, and it was pleasant to be outdoors when not on the deck of a boat. Nova and Toushi, I got some things from you on the beach. They're probably silly, but well...they reminded me of you. You don't have to keep them.

The strangest thing happened when we ventured deeper into the island itself, though. Reverie and I somehow got separated from the rest of the group. This was fine, as he's quite well-mannered, but a sparkle in a tree hollow caught my eye and a flock of tropical birds attacked us! I was lucky to have Reverie around, and it was lucky I could heal his injuries afterward, though I'm sure he would have recovered on his own. I don't know why the birds would have wanted the crystal I found in the tree. Perhaps they're the type that hoard shiny things. Some birds do that, don't they?

Though...later, I was holding the crystal and something interesting happened. I think it was a memory. I think I was right about knowing Toushi.

[OOC: Kazahana discovered a memory crystal that showed her this scene through sound, taste and touch. She felt herself being stabbed/gouged, tasted the blood in her mouth (yay, internal bleeding) and heard Ichigo screaming her name. Please note, however, that while she recognized Toushi's voice and knew he was saying her name, she can't quite remember what her name sounded like.]
