I want to pass on a warning--hopefully it's nothing serious, but one of the tree's large squirrels has been sighted roaming the residential areas, apparently looking for food. I caught a glimpse of it in Section 3, and one of today's patients from Section 4 reported a sighting as well. I'm not sure about the other areas. The patient was in for unrelated issues; the squirrel hasn't shown any aggression so far, but it's best to be cautious.

Those who have pets might want to make extra-sure they don't get outside. KC saw it through the window and he must have thought it was some kind of giant cat, there to challenge his domain. He puffed up so much he looked like a giant furry orange.

...Damn.

Thank whatever for the fact that people come back in this place, at least. Still, what a way to go.

But this sort of thing... you say it doesn't happen often? Do you think maybe it's a seasonal thing?

We haven't had enough incidents to determine an overall pattern, though we have had two giant ant invasions at the same time of year—early in the summer.

live_ringer: (That I have found it.)

Giant ant invasion? Christ. If I'm still around at that time, I'll make sure to put all my stray sugar cubes away.

We'd just evacuate to the Wilderness again. It's not safe otherwise; we've done it before.
live_ringer: (Makes me grin.)

[personal profile] live_ringer 2009-10-07 02:45 pm (UTC)(link)
Good to know there's a system in place for this sort of thing.

[identity profile] snowburned.livejournal.com 2009-10-07 02:54 pm (UTC)(link)
It's not perfect, but we do our best. I was actually born during the first ant evacuation, right in the elevator.
live_ringer: (Will to come back to you now.)

Wow, what a welcome. At least you were in a convenient position to get moving, but that had to be a headache and a half to come in on.

[identity profile] snowburned.livejournal.com 2009-10-07 03:43 pm (UTC)(link)
It was certainly inconvenient for the guard who was carrying my cocoon.
live_ringer: (Should I tell the mindless stumbling on?)

[personal profile] live_ringer 2009-10-07 04:00 pm (UTC)(link)
Hm, maybe that's something to look into creating. Emergency Cocoon Carriers.

[identity profile] snowburned.livejournal.com 2009-10-07 04:07 pm (UTC)(link)
You sound like an engineer.
live_ringer: (Makes me grin.)

[personal profile] live_ringer 2009-10-07 04:16 pm (UTC)(link)
Sadly, I get the feeling I'm not nearly so smart. Wouldn't be opposed to trying my hand at rigging something, though.

[identity profile] snowburned.livejournal.com 2009-10-07 04:19 pm (UTC)(link)
You never know until you try.
live_ringer: (Enlightening.)

[personal profile] live_ringer 2009-10-07 04:22 pm (UTC)(link)
I may have to put it on my personal project list. Should make rooting around in the Scrapyard a little more interesting, at any rate.

[identity profile] snowburned.livejournal.com 2009-10-07 04:23 pm (UTC)(link)
Just be cautious while you're there.

[personal profile] live_ringer 2009-10-07 04:28 pm (UTC)(link)
I do my best. But that does remind me that I need to pick up a weapon, just in case.

You don't suppose the young lady in charge of the weapons stand would have any kind of payment program, do you? Being a newborn makes acquiring these things just a bit touch and go.

[identity profile] snowburned.livejournal.com 2009-10-07 04:30 pm (UTC)(link)
What kind of weapon are you looking for?

I've never shopped there, so I couldn't say, but she's a kind person. I wouldn't be surprised if you could work something out.
live_ringer: (Should I tell the mindless stumbling on?)

[personal profile] live_ringer 2009-10-07 04:37 pm (UTC)(link)
A gun, I think. Something easily portable and easily drawn.

Good to know. She did offer me a job, maybe I can do something like repair a weapon in exchange for one.

[identity profile] snowburned.livejournal.com 2009-10-07 04:45 pm (UTC)(link)
I prefer a sword, but you should be able to find what you're looking for.

Oh, really? I should think you're at least entitled to an employee discount.
live_ringer: (Watching the others struggle through.)

[personal profile] live_ringer 2009-10-07 04:52 pm (UTC)(link)
A sword, huh? I'll bet that takes a good bit of finesse to handle.

Well... you see, I haven't accepted the job, so there wouldn't be any discount. I figured there would be a bit too much confusion if I did. But a bit of labour exchange might not be out of the question.

[identity profile] snowburned.livejournal.com 2009-10-07 04:54 pm (UTC)(link)
I just can't imagine using a gun. I wouldn't know what to do with it.

Ah, I see. That does sound fair.
live_ringer: (Will to come back to you now.)

[personal profile] live_ringer 2009-10-07 05:24 pm (UTC)(link)
I would say it's not so bad but... I think I need to take some time to reacquaint myself with it before I can make that claim.

[identity profile] snowburned.livejournal.com 2009-10-07 06:02 pm (UTC)(link)
There are people who can use them quite handily. I suspect I've just used a sword for too long to change. And she'd be pissed if I did.
live_ringer: (Drowning in understanding.)

[personal profile] live_ringer 2009-10-07 06:06 pm (UTC)(link)
Well, everybody's got their strong points and comfort zones. I probably couldn't handle a sword, so there you go.

[identity profile] snowburned.livejournal.com 2009-10-08 02:24 pm (UTC)(link)
I suppose we balance, then.
